Canadian Affair

Over on Sue's blog is a fab sketch with the chance of winning a kit so I thought I might have a go.  It seems ages since I actually did any scrapping and I find a sketch is a good starting point when you feel a bit rusty:)

This photo of Holly was taken off Victoria Island when she went whale watching.

The title is a bit wonky but I have now adjusted this - taking a photograph of a layout really emphasises the imperfections, that's for sure!  The title came from Holly's love of Canada - this is the third time she has been and also the airline she flew with!

WOYWW 208

Time to be nosy and check out the crafty desks from all over the world.  Further details can be found here at Julia's blog.

This is mine - I've been making a card for my future daughter in law to welcome her into our family.

I've used the same colours and papers for her card as all their wedding stationery but used butterflies instead of the gerberas for a change.  I also made the card very simple as the one I have made for their actual wedding card is quite full on.

It's a funny size too so I will have to wrap it in tissue paper - it's quite big - A3 cut in half length wise then folded.

The inside.

On the guillotine is a card for my son - again quite simple.  I got the idea of this one from Pinterest but I can't find it anywhere in my pins so I apologise for not giving the person who came up with the idea, the recognition it deserves.

I used a real match and my husband said " that is a used match isn't it?"  Me: "no?"  He just raised his eyebrows.  Is it really a fire hazzard?

The insert.

If you click on the photos you can read the words which I found on the internet.

Well, that's my desk for this week, I'm going to go and have a snoop at some others now:)

Beat the Christmas Rush

Christmas card time again - how are yours coming along?

Here are mine for this month - again very quick and simple which is what you need when you have to make a lot.

I've made my cards from the off cuts of the Order of Services I am making for Adam and Lucy's wedding.  I folded a piece of A4 card in half then cut off the top to make it square and I was left with a  bit of folded card which I was going to throw away.  They measure about 5.75" x 2.5".

These are the 5 I made.  Although you can't see very well, I used glossy card for the turquoise background, swiping a Blending Blox shades of turquoise ink pad across to get an even coverage then spritzed with water to give it a speckled look.  The houses and trees are a Memory Box die cut with a touch of glitter glue added.

WOYWW 207

Phew, that week went by in a blur and it's time to show you what's on my desk.  Nothing exciting I'm afraid, I'm still on with wedding stationery and I had a bit of a panic at 10 p.m. Sunday night when I suddenly realised I'd only made half of the 40 cards I needed for the Order of Serice!  I managed to get most of it prepared by the time I went to bed three hours later and spent Monday and Tuesday putting most of them together.  I still have another 5 to complete because I ran out of black card and had to order some more.

The box with the pink flowers in it are the place cards which are all done and dusted.

I've also got the inserts for the O of S done too and am debating on how to stick them into the card as there are 4 pages.  Staples look favourite at the moment.

The pink package at the bottom left is a birthday card for my friend Sue.  I made the card ages ago and it's been lurking on my desk and if I'm not careful I will forget to send it - her birthday is on the 31st May so I thought if I put it right in the front, I'd remember.

Just behind that is Tuppenny Wee's tuxedo which needs taking in a bit and to the left of that is a new baby card for the long awaited Bijoux Belle baby girl who incidently has just arrived.  (I'm writing this Tuesday night and she was born at 18:55 and weighed a healthy 8lb 6 oz.  Congratulations Laura and John:)

At the bottom right is some black chiffon which is to make Holly's bridesmaids dress a bit less revealing at the top.   I'm not sure how I am going to go about this yet though!

If you click on the photo to make it bigger, you might also notice I am starting to make some Christmas cards for the Beat the Christmas Rush challenge.

Right, so that's my desk for another week and if you want to join in, why don't you head over to Julia's?

WOYWW 206

Late again this week but not because I forgot - I got in from work about half past one and had such a bad headache, I had a nap!

Anyway, I've not been up to much - it was my daughter in law to be's hen weekend and we all went to Brighton so no crafting got done over the weekend and Monday I finished off all the names on the place cards, just have the inserts to do which Adam brought over for me last night.  But what I am showing you this week is some stash I bought with some birthday money.  I ordered it on 29th April and it seemed to have gone missing but I had an email from the shop yesterday to say it was at my Post Office sorting office and had been waiting there since 1st May!  How am I supposed to know they have tried to deliver if they don't leave me a card?

I got lots of Bazzill cardstock, a few sheets of random patterned paper, Echo Park's Little Girl paper pack, 2 lots of alphas, a cupcake punch, a craft sheet, 2 small stamps and a tin of Maya Road journey stamps, a roll of d/s tape, 2 alcohol inks, a set of 6 ColorBox cats eye ink pads and a 6" x 6" pad of Cosmo Cricket Joy Ride papers, all for less than £25.   Bargain or what?

If you head over to Julia's you'll see lots of more interesting desks than I have this week:)

WOYWW 205

Gosh, I'm late today - I completely forgot it was Wednesday today - the Bank Holiday has put me out completely!

Not much to report however, we had a busy weekend so not much crafting done.

I've started another bag, on the right at the front you can see the outside of the bag using some Cornwall place name fabric and at the left near the top of the picture is the lining in cream and red spots.
At the front left are the place cards for Adam's wedding and tonight I am going to finish putting the names on them as we now know is and isn't coming:) and underneath them is a shoe box (why it's there I have no idea) from the sandals I got at the weekend.
The turquoise package in the middle is an order of photos just received - they are Holly's holiday pics from Canada.  I only ordered 50 so far, but she did take over 1000.

On the other desk is some stash I bought to make a mini album for Holly's holiday pics.

For those of you who visited me last week, here is the finished quilt.

Pop over to Julia's to see lots more interesting desks:)

You take my breath away

When I saw this photo of Holly on Facebook, taken in Canada, I knew I had to scrap it straight away - she just looked so beautiful and natural.  I am of course biased.

I used it for the weekly challenge on UKs - scrap someone you love, use a little bit of yellow and butterflies, so here is what I did.

If you click on the picture you should be able to read the writing - a quote I found on the internet which seemed appropriate.

Raggy quilt

Yesterday on WOYWW I posted about a quilt I was hoping to make - well I got it finished last night and I am really quite pleased with how it all turned out.

I used 8 rows of 8 4" squares- it was only a practise run and I will use it for one of the dogs so nothing matches and I wasn't particularly careful matching the seams etc but I didn't want to go ahead and buy expensive fabric and not like the end result.

When I finished it I have to admit it looked a bit of a mess so I took it in the garden and gave it a right good shake to get rid of any loose threads then hand washed it and popped it in the machine to spin it and this morning I've hung it on the line and I think it looks fab:)

Even the back doesn't look too bad!

I can't wait to get started on a bigger one!

WOYWW 204

As usual, my desk is messy - work in progress.  Today my plan was to start a rag quilt and as I've never made one before I thought I'd have a practise run and make one for the dogs.  However, Adam rang to see if I could make a new home card for a couple of friends who are moving into a flat this weekend so I thought I'd better do that first.

You can see the piles of fabric squares at the back of the desk all ready to go.

The finished card.

If you're wondering why I've posted some random pictures of my craft desk, pop over to Julia's Stamping Ground and you will find lots of other people all over the world show off their workdesks:)
